Lawn Disesases:

Brown Patch:Water in morning, cut with sharp blades, and apply fungicide if necessary. |

Snow Mold: Too late in early Spring but for next Fall avoid reoccurrence by cutting lawn at end of season. Do not leave it too long over the winter. |

Leaf Spot: Water in morning, cut with sharp blades, remove low hanging tree limbs, and apply fungicide if necessary. |

Powdery Mildew: Increase air circulation by reducing shade and apply fungicide. |
 |
Stripe Smut: Mow at 3 inches height, apply lime if acidic soil and apply fungicide. |

Red Thread: Maintain Nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus. Mow and bag clippings 1 time per week in order to remove diseased portion of grass. Reduce shade and increase air circulation. Avoid irrigation in late afternoon or evening prior to midnight. Also apply fungicide. |

Other:

Lawn Watering: Your lawn needs 1 inch of water per week. Usually 30 minutes of watering, per area every other day, should equal 1 inch per week. Water in the morning. Watering at night encourages lawn disease. |

Dull Blades: Sharpen them at any lawn mower retail outlet. |

Cutting too short: Cut lawn at 3 inches height. |

Excessive wear on the lawn: Limit activity especially when lawn is wet or muddy. |

Acidic Soil: Apply lime. |

Dog Urine burn: Go to Pets Supply Plus and get acid neutralizing products. |
 |
Tree Roots: Call a tree service and see if you can prune roots. |
 |
Tree Cover too dense: Remove branches to thin out tree, especially the low hanging branches. |
 |
Pine Needles shedding: Remove pine tree or don’t expect much of a lawn. A landscaping alternative is to put stones or bark under the pine tree. |

Compacted Soil: Aerating your lawn will break up soil compaction. |
 |
Heavy Thatch: Aerating your lawn will reduce excessive thatch, allowing nutrients and water to penetrate into you root zone. |

Bare Spots: Seeding your lawn in the spring or fall will help fill it in. You may need a sunny or shady mix, depending on your level of shade. |
